Bringing power to truth

Bringing Power to Truth is an artist-led initiative that aims to address inequity by modeling a new way of organizing and distributing resources to artists-as-citizens to meaningfully realize art for public good

The initiative shifts dynamics of power from “speaking truth to power” where resources and decision-making power remain held by those privileged by a racist system, to “Bringing Power to Truth” – empowering the voices of those facing racism and systemic oppression to lead a visionary new way.

Treaty 7 IndigiTrails

Bringing Power to Truth is a grassroots initiative that is artist-led by a group known as ‘Cultural Instigators’. Bringing Power to Truth has several spirals that undertake anti-racism and social justice work in the community through arts-based initiatives. In Partnership with Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY), Treaty 7 Trivia Trail is part of the work of the Indigenous Spiral and the featured Cultural Instigators are the leaders of that work.

Black Arts Development Program

The Black Arts Development (BAD) Program consists of six sections that focus on Theatre and Film for Script Writers and Actors, Dance, Visual Arts, Media and Music. The two primary aspects of the BAD Program are training and mentorship. The Program was designed with the intent of providing emerging and pre-professional Black artists the tools and practical knowledge to take the next step in their artistic journey and generate an environment where African, Caribbean, and Black Diaspora culture can flourish in Calgary.
